Bathurst Council begins Ngurang Arts Residency construction in 2026 with federal funding, creating a performing arts facility at Chifley Dam.
Construction of the Ngurang Arts Residency, formerly BARN, is set to begin in early to mid-2026 after Bathurst Regional Council secured $4.2 million in federal funding and approved the project in January.
The council selected Hines Constructions for a 12-week early contractor involvement phase, which will include site prep and access road work.
A final construction contractor is expected by April 2026, with site work potentially starting in late April.
If on schedule, the 12-month project will create around 20 jobs and deliver a performing arts facility at Chifley Dam with spaces for circus, dance, music, and community use.
The vision dates back to 2009 and was formalized in 2017.
