West Virginia is developing a 2050 energy policy to expand its power generation from nearly 16 gigawatts to 50 gigawatts, as part of Governor Patrick Morrisey’s “50 by 50” initiative.
The plan, shaped by 71 public comments, supports an “all-of-the-above” approach including coal, natural gas, nuclear, hydrogen, and renewables.
It will include transmission upgrades, energy security measures, and 25-year development strategies for each energy source.
