Vetëvendosje won Kosovo’s Dec. 28 snap election with ~50% of vote, poised to govern alone.
According to preliminary results, Prime Minister Albin Kurti's Vetëvendosje party won a resounding victory in Kosovo's snap parliamentary election on December 28, 2025, with roughly 50% of the vote.
The early vote was prompted by the victory, which is the first time since Kosovo's independence in 2008 that no government was formed following a previous election.
With a turnout of about 44%, Kurti's party surpassed competitors such as the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo.
Although final counts are still pending, the results indicate Vetëvendosje may have enough seats—possibly 61 out of 120—to rule alone.
International observers noted democratic standards during the peaceful election, which was seen as a test of public confidence amid regional tensions and economic struggles.
While opposition parties voiced concerns about political polarization and governance, Kurti promised to form a government quickly.
The result improves his standing ahead of the March presidential election and negotiations for EU membership.
