A Utah judge has ordered the release of a redacted transcript and audio recording from a closed hearing in the case of Tyler Robinson, accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk in a September 2025 shooting at Utah Valley University. Judge Tony Graf ruled public transparency is essential to the judicial system, allowing the documents to be posted with limited redactions for security. While permitting Robinson to wear civilian clothes in pretrial hearings, the judge maintained restraints for safety and prohibited media from showing or broadcasting the restraints. The judge has not yet ruled on a defense request to ban courtroom cameras. Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 18, 2026.
