On December 29, 2025, a semi-truck crashed through an overpass on I-196 near Saugatuck, Michigan, after jackknifing in icy, windy winter conditions. The vehicle struck barriers, landed on Old Allegan Road, caught fire, and exploded, injuring the unconscious driver, who was rescued and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews closed five miles of I-196 and Old Allegan Road, and a hazmat team was dispatched as a precaution, but no hazardous materials were discovered. The overpass was checked for damage.
