Victoria Police have arrested over 100 people and seized at least 30 weapons, including knives, hammers, and knuckle dusters, during a 90-day zero-tolerance operation at four major Melbourne shopping centers since December 8.
The crackdown, launched after violent incidents including an armed gang fight and a car driven through a center, has resulted in 217 detected offenses, including thefts and assaults.
Among those arrested was a 15-year-old with a hunting knife, who received a caution, and two adults charged with stealing $800 in clothing.
Police have responded to 600 calls and continue patrols through the summer to maintain safety, emphasizing that shopping centers should be secure for families and youth.
Shoppers have expressed relief at the increased police presence.
