India’s peacekeeping hospital in Congo honored for lifesaving care during Goma fighting and disease outbreaks.
The Indian Level II Plus Hospital, part of India’s UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, received the Special Representative of the Secretary-General’s Unit Appreciation on December 29, 2025, for providing uninterrupted medical care during intense fighting in Goma from January to February 2025.
Despite crossfire, threats, and severe challenges, the unit treated conflict casualties, saved UN peacekeepers, and cared for civilians and local forces.
It also managed outbreaks of Monkeypox, cholera, and tuberculosis.
The hospital was praised for leadership, coordination with mission headquarters, and fostering cooperation through training and outreach, reflecting UN peacekeeping’s humanitarian principles.
The award highlights India’s ongoing commitment to global peace and security.
