A Ghanaian man sentenced to three months in prison stole $7,000 and a phone from a sleeping bus driver in Accra.
A 27-year-old driver’s mate, Edem Avenyo, was sentenced to three months in prison for stealing GH¢7,000 and a Samsung Galaxy smartphone from a public transport driver at Tema Station in Accra on October 25, 2025.
The theft occurred while the victim and his companion were sleeping in their parked vehicle.
Avenyo, who lived in the Arts Centre, was arrested on December 19, 2025, near COCOBOD after using the stolen phone to post a photo on the victim’s WhatsApp status.
He admitted to selling the phone for GH¢800 and spending the money.
Despite pleading guilty and offering to repay the loss, the Gbese District Court convicted him based on his admission.
The victim, from Aplaku, Accra, reported the theft the following morning.
