Fiji conducts operations to stop child begging and protect unsupervised children during holidays, offering aid and care.
Fiji’s government, through its Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection and the Fiji Police Force, has conducted random operations over the past two weeks to address rising street begging and unsupervised children during school holidays.
Families found begging with children received food rations and were returned home; a homeless senior was placed in care at the Golden Age Home.
Authorities stressed parental responsibility for child supervision during festive periods and said unaccompanied children will be taken to safety and families counseled.
The effort, aimed at protecting vulnerable populations, will continue into the holiday season.
