Cecilia Giménez, the Spanish woman whose 2012 attempt to restore a 19th-century fresco of Jesus Christ in Borja, Spain, went viral after the image resembled a monkey, has died at age 94. Her well-intentioned but flawed restoration sparked global attention, turning the town into a tourist destination with over 40,000 visitors in 2013 and raising more than €50,000 for charity. The fresco, now protected by glass, continues to draw 15,000 to 20,000 annual visitors. Giménez, later celebrated for her artistry and devotion, held a public exhibition of her own work and was honored by local officials, including Mayor Eduardo Arilla, who praised her legacy.
