The Carlisle Southern Link Road project is delayed to spring 2026 due to rain, impacting housing development in Cumberland.
The Carlisle Southern Link Road, vital for connecting the M6 to the A595 and supporting the St Cuthbert's Garden Village housing plan, has been delayed until spring 2026 due to heavy rainfall disrupting construction.
The project, aimed at easing congestion and unlocking thousands of homes, faces ongoing challenges as housing starts in Cumberland have plummeted to 430 in 2024/25, with 3,000 homes stalled at planning stage.
Despite setbacks, progress includes four roundabouts, six footbridges, three crossings, and 14 km of shared-use paths.
Cumberland Council thanked the public for patience while work continues.
