On December 18, 2025, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University launched an 18-meter-diameter immersive dome cinema at its Taicang campus, featuring 8K resolution, a 110°×180° wraparound view, and full surround sound. The facility supports cross-disciplinary education and creative research. Its debut coincided with the fifth MEGA International Creative Media Festival, themed "Immersion," which received 1,384 submissions from 14 countries—a 67% increase—highlighting new categories for AI-generated and short-form content. The festival drew over 2.07 million livestream views. On the same day, the International Immersive Media Creation Alliance was established to promote global collaboration in immersive technology.
