A new waterproof canopy is being built at Lough Lannagh Playground in Castlebar, County Mayo, following an open tender for its design and construction. Funded with €35,000, the project aims to make the playground usable year-round, regardless of weather. Expected to be completed within three months, it is part of Mayo County Council’s effort to improve community infrastructure and promote wellbeing. The upgrade supports broader plans for the site, including a climbing wall, skate park, and a multi-million euro sporting campus, intended to transform the area into a regional recreation hub. Minister of State Alan Dillon TD praised the investment as a practical enhancement to a popular local space.
