Two Queens fires injured at least two, damaged buildings, and displaced residents; investigations ongoing.
Two fires in Queens, New York, on Sunday morning injured at least two people and caused major damage.
One fire in Maspeth, believed to be caused by old wiring, injured two, including a child, and was contained by 4:30 a.m. A second fire at a former restaurant in Springfield Gardens, near JFK Airport, destroyed much of the building and required nearly 200 first responders to control.
The Red Cross assisted nearly a dozen displaced residents.
Authorities are investigating both incidents, with no confirmed connection between them.
