Sri Lanka seeks Chinese help to fix cyclone-damaged infrastructure, with China offering aid and India pledging $450M.
Sri Lanka has requested urgent Chinese assistance to repair bridges and railway tracks damaged by Cyclone Ditwah in late November, which caused over 638 deaths and left 175 people missing.
Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath asked China to help restore critical infrastructure and develop electric vehicle charging stations as Chinese-made EVs grow in popularity.
China pledged to review the request and has already provided $1 million in cash, 10 million yuan in relief supplies, and a $100,000 donation from the Chinese Red Cross.
India is also supporting recovery with $450 million in aid and emergency engineering efforts.
