Sixteen-year-old Vishwanath Karthikey Padakanti of Hyderabad became the youngest Indian and second youngest globally to complete the Seven Summits Challenge, summiting Mount Everest on May 27, 2025.
On December 26, 2025, President Droupadi Murmu awarded him India’s highest honor for children, the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, during Veer Baal Diwas.
Karthikey, born in 2008, began climbing during the pandemic at age 11, completed 23 high-altitude climbs across continents while studying, and trained at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering.
His achievement was supported by family and mentors, and the award marks a third win for his training organization.
He credited mountaineering with building discipline and resilience, and said the honor fuels his ambition for future goals.
