PM Modi warns Indians not to self-medicate with antibiotics amid growing resistance threat.
During his "Mann Ki Baat" speech on December 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cautioned Indians against using antibiotics for self-medication due to the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.
He cited a report from the Indian Council of Medical Research that demonstrated how widespread abuse of antibiotics is making them less effective against infections like pneumonia and urinary tract infections.
Health professionals, such as Dr. VK Paul of NITI Aayog and former AIIMS Director Dr. Randeep Guleria, reaffirmed the message, emphasizing that antibiotics should only be taken under medical supervision in order to maintain their efficacy and stop the spread of drug-resistant infections.
