Over 37,000 UK taxpayers filed their Self Assessment returns between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day 2025, with 4,606 on Christmas Day alone, according to HMRC.
The tax authority is urging those who haven’t filed to act before the 31 January deadline, highlighting digital tools and a new PAYE service that may eliminate the need to file for some.
Winter Fuel Payments for 2025 will not be reported on the 2024–25 return, as they’ll be recovered in the next tax year.
HMRC also warned against scams and advised using GOV.UK for official guidance.
