Gujarat led India in okra production during 2024-25, with the Saurashtra-Kutch region yielding nearly 150,000 tonnes across 14,000 hectares.
The state ranked first nationally in both cultivation area and output in 2023-24, producing 11.68 lakh tonnes from about 94,000 hectares.
Saurashtra-Kutch contributed roughly 15% of the state’s area and 13% of output, achieving a productivity of 20.60 metric tonnes per hectare.
Horticulture now covers nearly 20% of Gujarat’s agricultural land, supported by government schemes promoting protected farming, cold chains, and farmer training.
The state contributed 7.66% to India’s total vegetable production.
These gains will be showcased at the 2026 Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Rajkot.
