China starts building a major aircraft maintenance base in Kunming, aiming for completion in 2028.
Construction has begun on the largest aircraft maintenance base in Southwest China at Kunming Changshui International Airport, with completion expected by 2028.
The project, funded with over 1.5 billion yuan, includes a 260-meter hangar capable of servicing 10 narrow-body aircraft simultaneously, offering full maintenance services including engine and landing gear replacements.
Developed by China Railway Construction Engineering Group, it features advanced technologies like 5G cranes, robotics, and a digital twin system to support intelligent operations.
The base aims to reduce reliance on foreign repair centers, cut costs and downtime, and aligns with China’s 14th Five-Year Plan for digital and self-reliant aviation maintenance, positioning Yunnan as a regional hub for China, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.
