Doug Baldwin, a 100-year-old World War II veteran who landed in Normandy in June 1944 with the King’s Own Scottish Borderers, has died.
Captured in August 1944, he spent nine months in German prisoner-of-war camps, working in coal mines, before being liberated in May 1945.
He later served in Germany’s Army of Occupation and was honored with France’s Legion d’honneur in 2021.
Baldwin, who lived in Caddington, Bedfordshire, visited Normandy multiple times through the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans, which remembered him with gratitude and respect.
