Turkey’s Kızılelma drones autonomously flew in close formation, completing a combat mission without human input.
On December 28, 2025, Turkey's Baykar announced that two prototypes of its Kızılelma unmanned combat aircraft achieved the world’s first fully autonomous close-formation flight, demonstrating smart fleet autonomy and successfully completing a Combat Air Patrol mission without human intervention.
The test, conducted at the Akıncı Flight Training and Test Center in Çorlu, marked the first time a jet-powered unmanned fighter has flown in synchronized close formation, a capability previously limited to manned jets.
The aircraft, developed entirely by Baykar, had previously destroyed a jet-powered target using a beyond-visual-range missile.
The milestone highlights Turkey’s growing aerospace innovation and advances in autonomous aerial warfare.
