A proposed merger between New Zealand's Gull and NPD fuel retailers may lower pump prices by early 2026, pending approval.
A proposed merger between New Zealand fuel retailers Gull and NPD could lead to lower pump prices, according to the Automobile Association, pending Commerce Commission approval.
The combined company would become the largest independent, majority New Zealand-owned fuel business, operating 240 sites and integrating supply chains and logistics.
Both firms use low-cost models, and the AA’s Terry Collins said the merger could drive efficiency and pass savings to consumers, especially after international oil prices fell below $60 per barrel.
He expects prices to drop in early 2026 unless global disruptions occur.
