Kenya prepares for 2026 school transition with 1.1 million Grade 10 students, $44B allocated, 23K classrooms ready.
Kenya’s government has confirmed full preparations for the first nationwide transition under the Competency-Based Curriculum, with 1.1 million Grade 10 students set to enter senior school in January 2026.
President William Ruto stated that Sh44 billion has been allocated, including Sh22,000 per student, and that 23,000 classrooms and 1,600 laboratories are ready or underway.
The Ministry of Education rejected 66,000 appeals for school changes, citing capacity limits at elite schools, but approved 116,000 of 183,000 appeals.
A second revision window is scheduled for January 6–9 to address under-enrollment in remote areas.
