Karnataka to review reinstating student union elections after 36-year ban.
The Karnataka Congress has formed a nine-member committee, chaired by Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, to evaluate the feasibility of reinstating student union elections across the state.
The committee, which includes senior party leaders, MLAs, MLCs, and youth wing officials, will submit recommendations within 15 days.
The move follows a pledge by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar to revive democratic participation among students, reversing a 1989 ban due to campus violence and political interference.
The review will cover election structure, eligibility, procedures, security, representation, and inclusivity.
