India's Supreme Court to hear case on new Aravalli Range rule affecting mining in Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat.
The Supreme Court of India will hear a suo motu case on December 29 regarding the government’s new 100-meter elevation rule for defining the Aravalli Range, which environmentalists say could expand mining in Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
Critics, including Neelam Ahluwalia of Aravalli Virasat Jan Abhiyaan, argue the change lacks scientific basis and public consultation, warning it threatens fragile ecosystems, groundwater, and public health.
They urge the court to revoke its November 2024 order, citing ongoing mining in 37 districts and a pending environmental impact assessment.
The court had previously directed a management plan for sustainable mining, but no independent review has been completed.
El Tribunal Supremo de la India escuchará el caso sobre la nueva regla de Aravalli Range que afecta a la minería en Haryana, Rajasthan y Gujarat.
