India launches new standard for electric farm tractors to boost safety, performance, and clean-tech adoption.
India has launched IS 19262:2025, a new national standard for electric agricultural tractors, developed by the Bureau of Indian Standards and announced by Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi.
The standard establishes uniform testing protocols for safety, performance, and reliability, covering power output, vibration, component inspection, and other key metrics.
Designed to support consistent evaluation, it aims to boost consumer confidence, promote innovation in clean farming technology, and accelerate adoption of electric tractors—offering lower emissions, reduced operating costs, and less maintenance compared to diesel-powered models.
Developed with input from manufacturers, testing agencies, research institutions, and government bodies, the voluntary standard provides a scientific basis for assessing electric tractors and supports future conformity assessment schemes.
