Idaho doctor delays retirement to fund eye center in Ghana, expanding care and training.
Dr. Stuart Clive, an Idaho emergency room physician, is postponing retirement to donate his entire salary to Cure Blindness Project, helping complete an eye care center in Cape Coast, Ghana, set to open in March.
The facility will expand surgical capacity and launch Ghana’s third ophthalmology residency program, building on over 150,000 sight-restoring surgeries since 2006.
Inspired by a documentary on cataract surgeries in North Korea, Clive tracks each life transformed with Post-it notes, noting that restoring sight also frees caregivers—often young girls—to return to school and strengthens families economically.
