Edmonton imposes parking ban to clear record snow, with fines or towing for violations.
Edmonton has declared a Phase 1 parking ban starting Sunday at 7 a.m. on major roads, bus routes, and business areas to aid snow removal after heavy snowfalls, including a record 48.2 cm by Boxing Day.
The ban, in effect for three to five days, prohibits parking to allow plows to work efficiently and may result in a $250 fine or towing.
The city’s extreme weather response ends Sunday at 3 p.m. as temperatures rise to 4 C by Monday, though wind chills remain dangerously low, with morning readings of -33 C. A blowing snow advisory was in effect, and additional phases of the ban may be announced.
Updates are available via the city’s Roadways Snow Clearing Map or alert services.
