flag The Coral Adventurer ran aground off Papua New Guinea on Dec. 27, 2025, but all 123 on board were unharmed.

The Australian cruise ship Coral Adventurer ran aground on a reef off the coast of Papua New Guinea on its first trip since passenger Suzanne Rees died after being abandoned on Lizard Island in October. Eighty passengers and forty-three crew members were among the 123 people on board; no injuries were reported. PNG Maritime Rescue officials evaluated the ship while it was en route on a 12-night cruise from Cairns. Crews were waiting for high tide to try refloating and check for damage. No immediate hull damage was reported by Coral Expeditions, but additional assessments are being conducted. Following Rees's death, the incident has rekindled concerns about passenger oversight on small-ship cruises and safety procedures.
