The UK Treasury will insure the Bayeux Tapestry for £800 million during its loan to the British Museum, beginning in September 2026, as part of a government indemnity scheme that reduces insurance costs for high-value cultural loans.
The 70-meter embroidery, depicting the 1066 Norman conquest, will be displayed in London until July 2027 while its home museum in Bayeux undergoes renovations.
