UAE enacts 2026 law to protect children online with age checks, privacy, and content filters.
The UAE has enacted a Federal Decree-Law on child digital safety, effective in 2026, to protect minors from online risks that could harm their physical, psychological, and moral development.
The law applies to all digital platforms—such as social media, gaming, streaming, and e-commerce—operating in or targeting UAE users, as well as internet service providers and caregivers.
It mandates age verification, default privacy settings, content filtering, and restrictions on targeted advertising.
Personal data collection from children under 13 is banned except for approved educational or health platforms.
Online gambling and betting are prohibited for minors.
Internet providers must activate content filters and require guardian consent with parental controls.
A Child Digital Safety Council, chaired by the Minister of Family, will coordinate national efforts, develop policies, and monitor emerging threats.
The law supports the UAE’s 2026 Year of Family initiative.
