A Toronto paralegal, Adelin Mocanu, is under investigation for running a scheme that filed over 200 meritless traffic ticket appeals using a loophole that suspends penalties during pending appeals. His company, Ticket Justice, allegedly recruited clients through third-party recruiters, including an anonymous Instagram account, often without clients’ full understanding. Mocanu reportedly had no intent to pursue most appeals, relying on a two-year window to let convictions expire, leaving some drivers with fines and suspended licenses when appeals were not filed. A judge dismissed the appeals as an abuse of the system, and the Law Society Tribunal has launched a probe into Mocanu’s conduct, which has drawn criticism for undermining public trust in the legal system.
