Philippine group demands ban on lead-laden toy guns sold without safety labels.
A Philippine watchdog group, BAN Toxics, is calling for a ban on pellet guns and other toy firearm replicas after testing found toxic levels of lead, cadmium, barium, and bromine in samples sold in Manila markets.
The toys, priced between 100 and 350 pesos, lacked proper labeling, safety warnings, and FDA authorization, violating national safety laws.
The group warns that exposure to these toxins can cause developmental delays, reduced IQ, and behavioral issues in children.
It urges the FDA to issue a public health advisory and local governments to enforce bans, confiscate unsafe toys, and raise awareness, citing existing local restrictions.
