Landowners in Islamabad protest CDA’s use of 2008 satellite images for property compensation, demanding fair reevaluation.
Hundreds of landowners in Islamabad’s C-16 and H-16 sectors protested the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) new Built-Up Property (BuP) awards, accusing the agency of using outdated 2008 satellite imagery to determine compensation and ignoring decades of family-built expansions.
The demonstrations, fueled by rumors of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s planned project inaugurations in H-16, highlighted concerns over delayed awards, restrictive eligibility rules, and low compensation that fails to reflect current market values.
Protesters, citing a 2008-09 land acquisition policy promising developed land and additional plots for built-up areas, demanded withdrawal of the BuP notifications and a reassessment based on current conditions.
The CDA defended its stance, stating only pre-2008 structures qualify, but residents remain unconvinced, accusing the government of systemic failures in urban land management.
