Italian police arrested nine, including a Palestinian group head, over €7M funneled to Hamas via fake aid charities.
Italian authorities arrested nine people, including Mohammad Hannoun, head of the Palestinian Association in Italy, on suspicion of funneling around €7 million to Hamas-linked groups in Gaza and the Palestinian territories through complex financial operations disguised as humanitarian aid.
The investigation, conducted with EU cooperation, revealed the charities were used to transfer funds via international bank networks and foreign intermediaries, with the European Union and Israel designating Hamas as a terrorist organization.
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said the operation exposed efforts to conceal terrorist financing under the guise of charitable work.
No statements were issued by the suspects or the organizations involved.
