Ghana’s Tema Oil Refinery restarted refining on Dec. 19, 2025, after a six-year halt, aiming to boost fuel supply and cut imports.
Ghana’s Tema Oil Refinery has resumed crude oil refining operations on December 19, 2025, after a six-year shutdown, following a three-month Turnaround Maintenance program completed in October.
The National Petroleum Authority confirmed compliance with safety and operational standards, allowing refined products to flow into storage.
The refinery is operating in phases, aiming to stabilize systems and restore full capacity, with a new furnace expected to increase output to 45,000 barrels per stream day and eventually 60,000.
The restart is part of broader efforts to enhance energy security and reduce fuel imports.
