Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar visited Puri, Odisha, from December 27 to 29, 2025, accompanied by his family, to seek blessings at the Shri Jagannath Temple and engage with booth-level officers (BLOs), whom he called the backbone of India’s electoral system. The trip, part of the Election Commission’s efforts to strengthen grassroots election management ahead of upcoming state polls, included meetings with local officials and BLOs to assess preparedness and address challenges in voter roll management. Kumar also visited cultural sites and met with Indonesia’s ambassador in New Delhi prior to the visit. The trip coincided with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Odisha, a key phase of the nationwide voter data update initiative.
