Assam launches healthcare pilot for tea workers targeting major diseases via screenings and outreach.
Assam has launched the "Swasthaban Shramik Yojana," a pilot healthcare initiative for tea garden workers, who comprise nearly 20% of the state’s population. Approved in the 2025-26 budget, the program begins at 20 tea estates in Moran, Sessa, and Ghagrajan, targeting anaemia, hypertension, diabetes, tuberculosis, and leprosy through early detection. It includes door-to-door screenings by ASHA workers, mobile medical units, Women’s Health and Wellness Ambassadors, Health Choupals for lifestyle counseling, and RBSK teams for child and adolescent health. The pilot will be monitored for outcomes to guide potential statewide expansion.
