Assam ended 30 years of conflict and AFSPA use, citing security gains and development under BJP leadership.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on December 27, 2025, that the state has achieved a major shift in security and stability since 2022, attributing the progress to the BJP-led "double engine" government at the Centre and state levels.
He said that over 30 years of conflict and the prolonged use of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) have ended, with the law being withdrawn from nearly all districts.
Sarma credited strong security operations, peace talks with insurgent groups, and development initiatives for restoring normalcy, improving public confidence, and boosting investment and tourism.
He criticized past Congress governments for weak governance and inaction, framing the current era as a transformative moment for Assam.
