Two men hospitalized after ICE agents shot a van driver who charged them in Maryland.
Two people were hospitalized after a shooting involving ICE agents in Glen Burnie, Maryland, around 10:51 a.m. near the 500 block of West Court.
Officials said agents were conducting a targeted immigration enforcement operation when the driver of a white van, identified as Tiago Alexandre Sousa-Martins, a Portuguese national, refused to comply, accelerated toward the agents, and attempted to run them over, prompting officers to fire their weapons in self-defense.
The van crashed between two buildings, injuring the passenger, Solomon Antonio Serrano-Esquivel, a Salvadoran national.
Both men were taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore in stable condition.
ICE agents were not seriously injured.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and the FBI are investigating.
Governor Wes Moore acknowledged the incident and said the state is prepared to support the community.
No local police officers were involved.
