Telluride Ski Resort will close Dec. 27 due to a strike over pay demands by its ski patrol union.
Telluride Ski Resort in Colorado will close on Saturday, December 27, due to a strike by its ski patrol union after months of failed contract negotiations.
The union, representing ski patrollers, is demanding higher wages—starting pay from $21 to $28 per hour and top pay from $30–$36 to $39–$48.60 per hour—citing high living costs and the critical safety roles patrollers perform.
Resort owner Chuck Horning blamed the union for the closure, while union leaders accused him of refusing fair negotiations.
The closure comes amid a slow season due to warm weather, with only 20 of 149 trails open.
The resort is exploring ways to reopen despite the strike, which follows a similar 2024 strike at Utah’s Park City Mountain Resort.
The duration of the closure remains uncertain.
