Police chief joins officers in Nelson to honor fallen colleague and boost holiday policing.
Police Commissioner Richard Chambers will join frontline officers in Nelson on New Year’s Eve to honor slain colleague Lyn Fleming and support holiday policing, including at the Rhythm and Vines festival.
As part of a new initiative, about 600 office-based officers will complete at least 40 hours of frontline duties over the next year, contributing over 25,000 hours to road policing, events, and patrols.
Mandatory training and supervision by experienced staff ensure readiness.
Deputy Commissioner Mike Pannett and acting Deputy Commissioner Tusha Penny will also serve on the front lines during the holiday period.
