Chief Justice of India Surya Kant highlighted the rising success of mediation in resolving commercial, matrimonial, motor accident, and cheque bounce cases, noting a 30% increase in success rates, during a Mediation Awareness walkathon in Panjim, Goa.
He emphasized mediation as a voluntary, cost-effective alternative to litigation, stressing the need for over 250,000 trained mediators and growing interest from public and private sector professionals.
Organized by the Bar Council of India, the event promoted mediation as a first resort to reduce case backlogs, with participation from judges, lawyers, and officials, alongside a cleanliness drive and tree planting.
