India's cement sector emits 7% of global CO2, with new report urging inclusion of concrete carbonation in climate reports.
A new report released in New Delhi on December 26, 2025, by GCCA India and NCB assesses carbon dioxide uptake through concrete carbonation in India, using Tier-I methodology.
It finds the cement industry contributes about 7% of global CO2 emissions, largely from limestone calcination, and recommends improved data and methods to include carbon uptake in national climate reporting.
The findings will be submitted to India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The event also marked the opening of two new labs: a Gypsum Board Testing Lab and a Micro-Characterisation Lab, aimed at advancing quality control and material research.
Officials praised NCB’s role in sustainable construction innovation.
