Indian forces killed top Maoist leader Ganesh Uike and three others in Odisha on Dec. 25, 2025, in a major blow to the insurgency.
Indian security forces killed Ganesh Uike, a 69-year-old top Maoist leader and central committee member with a ₹1.1 crore bounty, in a joint operation in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on December 25, 2025.
Along with Uike, three other Maoists, including two women, were killed in a gunfight in the Rampa forest region.
The operation, based on intelligence from recent surrenders, involved Odisha Police’s Special Operations Group, CRPF, and BSF.
Authorities said the strike dealt a major blow to the Maoist insurgency, significantly weakening its leadership in the region.
The government reiterated its goal to eliminate left-wing extremism by March 2026.
