A Hindu man was killed in Bangladesh after allegedly trying to extort money, sparking concerns over violence against minorities.
A 29-year-old Hindu man, Amrit Mondal, also known as Samrat, was beaten to death in Rajbari’s Pangsha Upazila, Bangladesh, on December 24, 2025, after allegedly attempting extortion.
Local residents intervened, mistaking him and associates for thieves, leading to a mob attack.
Police confirmed Mondal had multiple criminal cases, including murder, and was linked to a group called “Samrat Bahini.” One associate was arrested with two firearms.
The interim government condemned the mob violence, stating the incident stemmed from criminal activity, not communal tensions, and rejected attempts to frame it as religiously motivated.
This follows the recent lynching of another Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, sparking regional concern over rising violence against minorities.
