Ghana’s top legal expert says its current prosecutor system is flawed due to political appointments, urging reform to boost trust and fairness.
Prof H. Kwasi Prempeh, chair of Ghana’s Constitution Review Committee, says the country’s current prosecutorial system is broken due to the Attorney General being a political appointee, creating conflicts of interest that undermine justice, especially in corruption cases.
He argues this model leads to inconsistent enforcement, few prosecutions of powerful officials, and widespread public distrust, with no guarantee that future governments will act differently.
