Ghana has advanced its goal of 99.9% electricity access by 2030, with two new projects commissioned in December 2025 in Awurahae and Sapor, Eastern Region, bringing power to communities near the Akosombo Dam that had long been without it.
The GH¢3.05 million initiative included a 2.4-kilometre network extension, a 100 kVA transformer, and aluminum-cable lines, completed through self-funding, support from the Volta River Authority, and community labor.
Local leaders called it a “biggest Christmas gift,” citing immediate benefits for fishing, farming, and education, and announced plans for a 24-hour market, road upgrades, and six teacher housing units to reduce staff turnover.
