Wayne State University has launched a state-funded study to evaluate cannabis as a treatment for PTSD in veterans, led by Professor Leslie Lundahl.
The largest of three planned trials will enroll 350 veterans in a 12-week study with up to a year of follow-up, aiming to determine cannabis’s safety and effectiveness for symptoms like anxiety, low mood, and poor sleep.
As one of the first randomized, placebo-controlled trials for PTSD, it seeks high-quality evidence amid a national veteran suicide crisis—170 Michigan veterans died by suicide in 2022, nearly double the national rate.
